In the United States that's normal.
Most practitioners won't schedule a visit until you're about eight weeks pregnant, unless you have a medical condition, have had problems with a pregnancy in the past, or are having problems now such as vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, or severe nausea and vomiting. Also, if you're taking any medications or think you may have been exposed to hazardous substances, ask to speak to the doctor or midwife as soon as possible.

Yup, it's very normal. My doctor didn't want to see me (unless there were complications) until I missed two periods. I didn't actually go in till week 12. You'll be seeing your doctor so frequently soon enough, so as long as everything seems normal, there shouldn't be a problem with seeing your doctor at 9 weeks.
There isn't a lot the doctor's can do for you earlier on other than prescribing you a prenatal (and they can do this over the phone.) If you are going to have a miscarriage, it's usually because something isn't developing right with the baby, and there is nothing the doctor can do about it, it's just the way life is and it's not anyones fault. Congratulations!!! I'm 27 weeks pregnant, and thought the first trimester was tough, I've enjoyed my pregnancy thus far.

I live in Quebec, Canada and here you don't have an appointment before 12 weeks in general unless you have major discomforts. If you're pregnant and feel fine then great! It takes a couple of weeks before the baby is big enough to do any health check such as hearth beat, size of the tummy... In the meanwhile, try to find a family doctor that can follow you trough your pregnancy and the baby after-wards. Most mommies like I appreciate staying with the same doctor after-wards. I had a specialist for the first one and then realized that the doctors you meet afterward don't know your background and how went the delivery. It uses time on the appointments repeating yourself!

With my first I didn't see the doctor until I was 12 weeks. Thats what the doctor wanted. I believe it was because in those first 12 weeks is the most likely time for a miscarriage, and they don't want to waste their time, or yours. With this second baby I saw the doctor at 10 weeks, not really sure why I got in so early though.

~It doesn't sound right, I know. I found out I was pregnant by accident. I called right away to get seen and they didn't want to see me as quick as I wanted to be seen. I was 6 weeks when I found out.
I was worried about the baby and wanted to make sure the test results were really positive.
They should see you sooner because the earlier the pregnancy, the more important. You need prenatal vitamins. I was anemic when I saw my doctor.
I guess not being that far along, if you miscarry, there isn't anything they can do.
I'm sure everything will be fine.
Congrats and Good luck.~

Is it good? No. But it is normal for OB-GYN's and hospitals. The risk of miscarriage goes down at 10 weeks, so they want to make sure the pregnancy is viable before investing time with you. Even if they can't see it on the ultrasound, shouldn't they still meet with you for urine tests, tell you how to best take care of yourself, eat healthy, etc? It seems really backwards to me.
We switched to a homebirth and had a midwife who spent over an hour with us at each visit. It was great. If you want more personal care, someone who will see you earlier, you might consider a birth center or midwife.

It sounds about right. My doctor confirmed my pregnancy by test then sent me away till 9 weeks. sadly my pregnancy miscarried before then. My friend would not see her intill she was out of the first trimester. I think it vareys. Their is not a lot they can tell you before then.
No this wont help much but their are web site s out their that can give you advise on vitimans, and food and exercise and this time so you dont feel helpless.
Good luck

9 weeks is when you can really hear the heartbeat through a doppler and also its the best time to have the most accurate ultrasound.
Plus the hormone levels of pregnancy will be higher rather than faint in the beginning
Its very normal

I think it's okay, they took me in right away, but I didn't see the dr. I saw the nurse, I was then rescheduled to see the doctor, and I'm sure it was around 8-9 weeks....
Congratulations, by the way!
