Can anyone give me a really simple, idiot's guide to getting some sounds put onto my new MP3. I haven't got a clue how to even start going about it, so I need some step by step instructions please.

OK try this on for size.

I will assume that you have not even loaded the software for the MP3 on to the computer?

there would have been a disc that came with the player.
Put it in to the disc drive on the computer

It will automatically start up and begin the installation process.

(if nothing seems to be happening, then go to "my computer" and click on the disc drive icon and go from there.)

Once you have installed the program it will automatically open up.

There may well be a button (my wife has a creative Movo 100) that will ask if you want to download a cd - if you would like to then follow the instructions

(usually, you are instructed to put the cd into the cd drive and you will be prompted to "start downlad" - it will then tell you when it is done and ask if you would like to download another one)

(If, eg you have an ipod then the itunes disc you have installed will also open and you will come to a screen that will show you all of your folders and there will be a library that will contain the songs you have downloaded. this library can then be "dragged" in to your ipod and the songs will be added)

If you go to "my computer" and the "my music" folder you will see the file that contains all the music you download.

(you would have been asked in the set up process if you wanted to save the music files to anywhere other than the my music folder)

your choice of where to download music from is quite large, i am a fan of Limewire (Limewire.com) and you can either download a free version or pay for the Limewire pro program, your choice.

Once you have downloaded your chosen program you will be able to choose the type of music / artist / song you want to download. Any of the programs are most likely to have a "library" that will store the songs once the download is complete. In MOST cases you can then take the downloaded track and drag it in to your MP3 library. The tune is transfered and stored.

obviously, having not mentioned the type of player you have (i am sure that will be asked of you in the next day or so many times by the Yahoo community) i can only guess and offer "usual" practice.

If you need more help or can give more info please ask and i would be happy to pass an email address to you so that i can assist more.

Good luck

iTunes (legal) or Limewire (illegal)

Search them on google...they're both programs you download
