I bought 2 of them and one does not work at all. In fact it looks slightly different...it fits fine, but does not look the same s the other, or the other 2 of the 256mb I am replacing. The package (kingston) are both labeled identical. Perhaps I have one that was mis-labled and is incorrect as it will not work?

Both were bought brand new from Frye's electronics about 2 weeks ago. Not black market or on Ebay

even more clarification: The old 256's and the 512 that works both have 8 large memory cells, the 512 that will not work has 16 small ones. says 32mb on each one.

Hey there,

Take it back.....

Seriously, unless you have a memory tester, you do not know what you got. Memory has become the dirty black market of computing. It seems that everyone recently is opening their trench coat saying, "You need some memory little boy?" :)

Fit, or no fit, your memory should look the same, for the most part. Yes, memory does look different from manufacturer to manufacturer, but for the most part, if you buy the same memory from the same manufacturer, it should look almost identical.

I also don't get off on memory that is not labeled. Generally, this memory is the 4th world memory that is not tested and does not work well.

Kingston is okay and has a lifetime warranty. For my money, I get Crucial. There are a bunch of memory manufacturer out there that are good.

In any case, with computer stuff, you ALWAYS get what you pay for. If you spent $1.50 on 512 of ram, that is exactly what you get!

Good luck my friend.

Tom
