Can someone explain tax credits to me?! Uk answers....?

How much can you earn before you stop getting them? Why don't I get a childcare allowance as a lone parent?

It seems like my governement is trying toscrew me over.....

Tax credits are rebates of the taxes paid. If you have a child under 18 whom you support, file as head-of-household. Invest in Turbo Tax, it will get you all the tax breaks available.
