...or someone like Ross Perot? Perhaps an independent?

Is anyone else sick of these life-long politicians and all of the Republican-Democrat brou-haha?

It sure would be refreshing to try something new. But are we ready in these times of turmoil and uncertainty?

Perot is a great man.
But if he ran, it would ensure another Democrat Victory.
He would just take votes from the Republican candidate.
Perot is the reason that the little boy, Clinton, became president.

Third parties can not work, unless you have a run-off. That will never be allowed by Dems & Repubs.

Ross Perot most likely wouldn't win because he has had two bites at the apple already and he also became a caricature of himself.

However, the political situation is ripe for a third party candidate to make a strong run for the Presidency. The hard part wouldn't be generating support, but generating money. The current two party system has a virtual lock on the major sources of funding, corporations, special interests and lobbying groups. To have a chance a third party candidate would have to have independent means of funding without appearing that they are buying the election.

Perot has been unchacteristically silent for the last few years. He certainly would get attention if he wanted to. So, it looks like he doesn't want it.

He cannot win. He hit his peak at -- as I recall -- around 20 percent the first time, much less the second time.

He has taken positions at odds with the bases of both parties. They are the most influential because they work for their candidates and show up at the polls.

You know, of course, the next President will come from one of the two major parties. The focus then might be to try to influence their selections. There has to be a very large mass of voters willing to work to get behind a candidate from either party. And, you know, of course, that's not going to happen.

The problem is not the major parties; it is us.

Ross Perot would be 78 years old in 2008. I am sure at this time in his life he will be just happy to be around in 2012 when his term is over

No, Ross won't get another chance to say, "I'm all ears" in 2008. As for an independent candidate, I'd love to see Colin Powell run as one. He'd shake up the race AND the two-party system. Others: Don't be surprised if Donald Trump runs! (I'd never vote for him anyway), Oprah Winfrey (rather watch her as a talk-show hostess, more independent and powerful as an entertainment icon), or how about Bill Gates?

It is very possible I think a lot of people in America are getting sick and tired of how the 2 major parties have been doing things these past few tears and want a change

Didn't he try that once before? Rhetorical question.

What could he invade? Iran. Sounds good to me.

We could prepare iran for an invasion from the north.
Oops different question.
