ask local schools churches etc to mention you in their newsletters, leaflet around your local area, cards in shop windows, business cards and flyers in musical shops and get networking with owners of these sorts of shops.
get a website with free hosting from Microsoft, http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/officelive/FX101534261033.aspx it has easy to use design tools and domain email addresses to give you a professional look. i did it with little web design knowledge (see what i did here http://rebecca-swift.co.uk/default.aspx )

Hi

First try a card in Gough and Davey and the other music shops in town, Hull Daily Mail, Beverley Advertiser and I know there used to be a free "what's on guide" that you could get from the Civic centre near Queen Vic's Statue. Are you going to travel or are your pupils to come to you??

Dear Sara,

Have you considered getting a freephone? They're only a couple of quid a month and give potential customers the impression you're bigger than you may be. If you want any more info on a freephone, just email me.

Good luck,

John Galvin.

Learn to spell first - that's always a good start. Also have you set up a sole trader, partnership or ltd company to do this? You need to be registered so you can file accounts and so on.
There are also child protection issues for piano (and other music teachers). If I were you, I would get in touch with your union (MU or teaching union), and look at the Associated Board's website for guidance.
