Depends on the species. Some like protein foods like flesh and other insects. Other species are attracted to sugars. One species actually "farms" aphids. The aphid excretes a sweet liquid that the ant eats. In turn, the ant protects the aphids. Good arrangement, huh?

Well that depends on the ants in question, if your refering to the ants you find in houses the answer would be any thing they find that they can carry back to the nest.
