There are some many different ways to write poetry I just don't see how it is an art form. The only part I see that is art is the expression but that has to stay in guide lines to make it a poem. Where is the art really?

Yeah boundaries are necessary. i mean if you want to write a poem you have to follow its rules, but if you just want to express your self and want to write something creative then there are no boundaries.
Writing as a poem isnt necessary , or i would say , art is like 'life' and life goes through different phases, sometimes things go totally unexpected so you can also express yourself in a very different manner. It should just make sense and even if it doesnt make any sense then there should be some emotions to built some sort of strength in the writing and it should offcourse look cool
Oh the most important thing, is the feeling that a creative writing gives. If you are able to deliver a feeling that is not very common then to me thats the most important thing.

What makes poetry an art form is the lack of boundaries and rules. If it had to follow certain guidelines than it would simply be a letter, or a memo, or any other formal form of written communication. I'm not an art guru but I think the reason there are guidelines and forms of poetry these days is because art is a business now and being able to label and contrast this poem from that poem makes the product (poetry) easier to market.

I agree with you. Poetry being a form of self-expression, which is really a pouring of life expressions or a response to a feeling or perpectives of abstractism..if there is such a word! But some of the writings passed off as poetry today is written for mass reading and appeal. And poetry is not a forum to attract, but for those who identify and understand the writer's intent.
