It should be remade. Daryl Hannah wasn't the best choice, just popular at the time for some strange reason.

I think it needs another twenty or so more years of aging. With DVDs and all these days movies stay fresher longer in people's minds making remakes harder (and less profitable to do).
I could see them doing it over as either an animated movie or a musical.

No. Most remakes are pale imitations to the originals. They can't catch the authentic spirit that went into the first-make.
