Our world is internationalized. Everything depends on communication, and because there are so many, knowing more than one can be incredibly useful. It also looks good on just about any resume.

In addition to the reasons others have mentioned, I believe that learning another language helps you learn your native language better. If you take a Latin-based language such as French, Spanish, or Latin itself, this can help you on standardized tests such as the SAT.

Because we live in a Globalized Planet with many languages and customs
