Yes, you should. If you get there and the boss/management doesn't like it, and they send you home, fine. But a black eye isn't something that impedes your work, so I don't understand why you should have to call in for one.

I have a government job and went to work with a black eye several years ago. I have to talk to the public all day long! People stared but didnt ask any questions. I did tho tell my boss the truth what happened rather than try to lie. I figured one lie turns into ten lies so I was up front. He just shook his head and told me to stop living in the fast lane, I was getting too old for that. I had been at a tavern and got into a fight with a gal over something that had been said months before that. Just tell the truth and face it, the black eye wont be there forever.

If you have a good reason or excuse that you can tell people as to why you have it, then why not? But if going to work like that makes you uncomfortable then you should be thinking of an excuse to stay home. You could also try makeup. Alot of people wouldn't even ask why you have it because they wouldn't want to create an awkward situation. But do what is comfortable for you.

One time, years ago, I stepped on a rake and got a black eye. I went to work (at a grocery store) as usual.
I got offers of help for domestic violence. No one believed that I had accidentally hurt myself, they thought my husband was beating me.

Ask your boss, if he lets you off then i suggest you not to go to work. If not, then try to cover it up as best as you can and go to work. Your clients won't hate you because you have a black eye will they?

you need to obtain authorized leave. in my opinion it looks cheap and unprofessional. we all make assumptions, and sadly, the first assumption is that it was caused through domestic violence, fight with boyfriend, etc. even if it was caused by pure accident, people almost never make that assumption. (although black eyes are usually caused by a wack in the face!) apart from the work issue, if it is in fact relationship related, get outta there! it'll only get worse! good luck

I sell used cars and have a few drinks after work. went to work many times wearing a black eye a husband or boyfriend put on me. sold cars with a shiner, got dates from women who like the "tough guy look", so no big deal wearing a black eye to work.

If you have a job and they are counting on you to show up, show up! If you can hide the bruise, fine. If you can't, too bad. Go to work.
Now, if your boss says go home until it clears up, then you are off the hook.

everyone gets injured once in awhile go to work and ask your supervisor what they think. i doubt anyone will really be bothered by it but you will be asked about it alot so make up some really fascinating story about how it happened....or you can just tell the truth.

Where sun glasses when there's people around and just tell them you are recovering from an injury.
