It is a metal one it looks like it has rusted, can I fix it or should I buy a new one?

If you are refering to the drain piping, then it is egg shell thin, and needs replacement. Supply line water pipe can be epoxied with two part wet&dry epoxy compound.

Buy a new one because it is rusted or get a repair man to pro fix it and it will last you longer to if you get a pro to fix the pipe

Drainage pipes were created in copper, galvanized, plastic (%or abs) and forged iron. in all probability your pipes are galvanized. I strongly suspect yours are galvanized and except you're a renter, employ a plumber asap. believe me you'll see all too right now otherwise.
