You can't avoid complications in that sense. What you can do is be seen by an ob/gyn regularly, take your prenatal vitamins, and get plenty of fresh air, healthy food and sleep. Avoid consuming alcohol, eating sushi or other raw fish or meat, smoking (including passive smoke) and stress - especially the kind caused by well-meaning pregnancy books that feel they have to warn you of every possible dire situation.
