I've read it could be demagnetised, we did keep little speakers underneath it - could they be the problem?
All the colours are messed up, there are greens, oranges, and purples......the sound is fine though and there are no lines, does anyone know what the problem could be?

hi, janbul is exactly right. i had this problem myself, had stereo speakers too close to an older tv. unfortunately, the degaussing circuit was either old, or not working or whatever, and i could not get rid of the bad color. luckily, i had a friend who was quite "learned" about televisions, and he suggested that i hold a large magnet (i actually used the speaker, as it wasnt too big for this procedure) right in front of the screen, then move it away from the screen in a slow and circular motion (i know, sounds unbelievable) and it worked perfectly. cost me absolutely nothing.

A built-in degaussing coil is briefly activated every time you turn the television on, which will remove any residual magnetism that may have been left by your loudspeakers. It may take several on-off cycles but I think it probably has done its job by now. I doubt whether the speakers would have been a problem anyway, unless they were in direct contact with the screen.
If the picture looks OK except the colors are off, we can probably rule out movement of the deflection coil on the neck of the CRT (picture tube). Since you have green, orange and purple, it appears that the red, green and blue color guns in the CRT are all working.
That leaves a possible malfunction in the color circuitry. But first I'd check the adjustments for the color intensity and balance. These may be hidden in a door below the screen, or on the back of the TV. Try turning down the color intensity first. The picture should approach a black and white image as you turn the control counterclockwise. Set it for the color intensity that you like. Then try changing the color balance to see if you can get more realistic colors.
If this fails, your TV probably needs repair. It may be cheaper to buy a new one. Get an estimate from your repairman first.

It could be the speakers, although now a days, speakers are placed in a special housing to prevent this from happening.
You can try and degauze it. You would need to purchase a degauzer at Radio Shack. I personally would call around to a couple of repair shops first and ask them what they think.
Good luck on that one.

It needs degaussing..... move the speakers away and leave it turned off for a while. If it is an older TV you may have to get an engineer to do it but its not expensive procedure.

Roxy is ideal, yet i love Pinky's answer. There actual are fish called the orange spike fish, the purple tang fish, and the silver dollar fish. So go ahead and provides the ten to Roxy, yet Pinky receives a thumbs up from me.

it is the speakers, make sure they have been removed.
Your tv will hopefull go back to normal eventually.
unless you have wrecked it with the magnets in the speakers then it will cost a fortune to fix.
hope it fixes itself, mine did but it took a while

i don't really think it is the speakers... your tv seems like it is just going... you could fix it but it would cost about the price of a new tv... my favorite tv did that a while ago... (yea i had a favorite tv lol).. and unfortunately i had to get rid of it :( good luck!

Try unplugging it for several minutes. Sometimes this will cause the factory settings to be re-established.
