Evil is the abstract absence of the good that ought to be there.
The devil, on the other hand, is a personal individual being - the highest angel - who rebelled against God in the beginning.
He is infinitely and eternally malicious, and his only purpose is to destroy man in mind, body, and soul, and to damn all souls for all eternity.

A good and interesting question!
Evil can be seen as a human trait. Being evil is something that is in every human being and, for those religous, some Gods can be too. It's something personal and something that is very frightening. But some people do not know they are evil.
For instance German soldiers killing 6 millon jews in WOII. They were told it was good, the believed that (most). But still it's evil.
That's why the myth of de devil was created. He is evil in person. So people can see what's evil and give it a name and accept it. Don't be a devil.
And remember that all myth (religions) are there to make societies work better, give values and justice.

The "d" from a visual aspect, but defining it they are pretty much the same only difference one is a noun the other is an adjective. The devil is to evil as evil is to the devil.

'Evil' is abstract while 'devil' is concrete. For instance, a person might have an evil mind you never know or fathom and, one day, he/she might become a devil by abusing or killing you.
