I would like to know how would you connect three LANs together that are in a single building. I can only think of a way of connecting 2. My guess would have something to do with wireless........maybe.

Hello,

(ANS) The most obvious answer I can offer you is too use a router & all three LANS connect to the same router or router plus a switch (such as a 3com switch).

Within the router you can setup x1 main network with a specific IP address range such as for example (a) 192.168.200. 001 (main network) then create x2 sub networks (by using sub netting i.e via subnet masking of the IP's) (b) 192.168.199.001 & (c) 192.168.197.01.

The sub netting method keeps all three networks seperate from each other but jioned physically by the router/switch. Thus you can easily have x3 LANS say each on a different floor of an office block. But you have to use sub net masking though for this to work, it requires someone with a good technical knowledge of TCP/IP and IP addressing techniques.

Hope that helps?

Regards IR

Use routers to connect. Use a router for each LAN. Then connect the routers together. That is the simplest way. Get your understanding correct first.

Oh Dear, Seems so simple doesnt it??

First off, You Need to know The IP details of each Lan.
Sub-Nets etc. Then you would need either a BRIDGE or Router Configuration acting as a central HUB.

If its all the same IP Rings, then all you need is a standard HUB.

you would be development a VLAN to end this activity. you may evaluate the optimal form of hosts at each region and then the routing and switching which would be mandatory to end this activity. Will any new kit be mandatory? to illustrate, DSL does not paintings pleased with VLAN. undertaking administration is mandatory as properly. you may interrupt this aside and create a achievable timetable as properly.

You can either use a router or a multilayer (L2/L3) switch.
