Although I prefer melatonin, you can also use lavendar essential oil which is especially good if you are stressed out or worried about a problem. Be sure to use real essential oil not synthetic.
Sprinkle some on your pillow, sheets, or a tissue and breathe deeply a few minutes. Can also put the bulk herb, lavendar, in a sock or make a little pillow and can do the same thing wiht herb hops.
My mom always told me hot tea or milk with honey,
Melatonin is a nutritional supplement or rather a hormone that many people begin to decline in as they age..it is safe in very high doses hundreds of times this. Start with 3 mg if not effective go to 5 mg. Take one hour before you want to sleep. This will help jet lag and help reset body clock if one is a night owl (delayed sleep phase syndrome) Some people use a time release capsule. When the sun comes up, it removes melatonin from the body when it starts to set, it starts to increase. Due to staying indoors and electric lights, many people body clock goes haywire.

I found that getting into a routine -- getting up at the same time every day--helped a lot. I also avoid caffeine and other stimulants and try not to eat after dinner (eating right before bedtime keeps me awake.) I just started a new job. I'm so tired that, for the first time in ages, I fall right asleep. If I'm really stressed, I meditate and try to calm down so I can sleep. I hope these help you. I know it's frustrating to be up when you're tired. I walked the floors for years. Good luck to you.

Take a warm bath to relax you, no alcohol or eating after 7 pm, don't do anything strenous within a couple of hours before bedtime. Many people state a glass of warm milk helps. I don't know about that one since I do not drink milk unless it is ice cold.

If you find this out, that will make me happy....
I only average 3-4 hours a sleep a day, and sometimes not in a row......
I think the reason is that my Brain has a mind of its own and my Body is only here for the ride!!!

Try music?
A good long speech puts me to sleep as well.
Or you could always try massage.
You have to apply pressure on your heel and on your big toe I think.
