If your rats are urinating the contents of their bladder (a big volume of urine) onto you, it could be a fear response due to handling. This will depend how familiar your rats are with you and how often you handle them. You can get them more used to you by training them to climb onto your hand when you hold it out for them, talking to them more when they're in the cage and holding them more often.

If it's a small amount of urine, i.e. a few drops, it could be that your rats are scent marking you. This indicates they are comfortable with you, happy to explore you and want to include you in their territory!

I also have two rats and they are male and when I first got them they used to do this all the time. I would sit on the couch and let them run around on it and they would still pee so it wasn't because I was handling them or they were scared, they were in a comfy environment. I think they were just marking their scent, thats what they do they are pretty territorial. They have since stopped and never ever do that. Hopefully yours stop too because it is a pain in the butt to have to clean up after them, lol.

How old are your rats?
When they are young and getting use to you, their new care-giver, they are fearful of the handling and the peeing and pooping on you is what we call fear-peeing, fear-pooping. It has nothing to do with pressing on their bladder, it has nothing to do with being happy, it has nothing to with having a full bladder and they choose you to be their toilet.

At any age rats, males more then females, will scent-mark their territory which includes you in order to find their way around their surroundings. If you are marked, then they can find their way back to you by smell. This is a rat's normal behavior.

They are just marking you with their scent. They do it all the time, it's just that you only notice it when it's on you!

Wild rats also do this to help them find their way back, just like Hansel & Gretel dropping breadcrumbs!

You're rats are comfortable and happy.

It's when they start pooping and you can feel their little bodies tense up that they are showing fear.

No. The way we pick them up, shoves against their bladder. They are tiny and when we pick them up, it shoves the urine out of their bladder.

That's all.

Try picking your rat up by supporting it's hind legs and not it's under belly. That should alleve the problem.

well, their bladders fill up with urine, so they need to find a spawning point. they will then spawn their piss onto you, because they think you look like a huge litter box. if you want to avoid this, then the split second before their piss is about to hit you, quickly spawn somewhere else using a telecast. you must be a lvl 38 mage and must be carrying a telecast stone and two fire tablets.

I think that you might be squeezing them too tight while handling them.

No - they do this when they are scared.
