rocksteady.. anything on the treasure island label
DJ- U-Roy, Dillinger, Lone ranger and dennis alcapone
Dub- anything with king tubby's name, lee "scratch" perry, mickey dread
dancehall- lady saw
for a good starting reggae album with a mix of reggae genres try and find the soundtrack to the movie the harder they come..
if you like lots of bass go for dub or roots reggae

Check out Dub Syndicate, King Tubby, Jeff Dread, Sly & Robbie, Linton Kwesi Johnson, 2Badcard, Salmonella Dub, African Headcharge, Adrian Sherwood, Mad Professor, Dreadzone. Try listening to some Dub Reggae, it is very bass heavy.
You didn't say whether you wanted modern or roots, so these are a mix of both. Cheers! and happy listening.
