I went to Crete once and found that after every meal they gave you a free glass of Ouzo (including ice creams!) so just be careful if you hire a car and you indulge in the Ouzo's. The people in Crete were so friendly, and welcoming I would love to go back there. Have a superb time, and don't forget the high factor sun cream, it gets very hot!!

So your off to Greece? Let me just say that this will be the most unforgetable trip of your whole life. You cant go to Greece and not try the food...that's a must. Sunscreen is important yes, but more important is to look tan and hot so that you match the beautiful people from there. There is so much to do I dont know where to start. Sagapo=I love you. miss you=mou leipeis. beautiful=omorfa.(youll need this for all the fliriting...which by the way will be tons).Thank you= efharisto. Please=parakalo. where=pou. bathrooms=toualetes...etc..a pocket dictionary may be helpful, even though almost everyone but the older generations know three to four languages fluently including English so you wont have a problem getting around.Youll have a blast. You should be very excited..enjoy your stay in the most beautiful country on Earth... and when you come back post a comment just so the rest of us knew we were right;)

Take a plug in mosquito repellent and get some of the repellent that you put on your wrists (looks a bit like a lip balm but doesn't smell) as the mosquitoes can be quite vicious in some parts of Greece - which part are you going to?
If you are trying the local drinks remember ouzo is served normally with a glass of water - mix the two as this is how it is meant to be drink and if you drink it neat and then have something with water in it later it can 're-start' the effects of the ouzo.
Make sure you have plenty of sunscreen and take a small battery powered fan as it can get quite humid in the Greek heat.
Above all - enjoy yourselves - the Greeks are usually a wonderful race - just don't get involved if you see an argument - then can get quite intensive and animated :D

Where are you going to be in Greece? I live in Athens and work in tourism here which affords me the opportunity to travel all over the country 9 months out of the year. If you want some specific advice, feel free to email me.

The answers you got were really great your going to have a hard time picking just one. I go every year.
Be careful of the traffic if in Athens
Don't think because the men are yelling they are arguing every time is true.....they just sound like that when in a good discussion
Don't get alarmed about seeing the armed police on corners ..and by armed I mean with HUGE guns they carry
If you drive, watch for ones walking.....they walk when it says stop...lol.......its just a normal thing there...god I love it there.
go with an open mind, breathe the life of a Greek and enjoy.....I know I do every year!! filakia

Congratulations - it is the most wonderful place to go on holiday - whichever part you are going to!
Greek people are welcoming in a way you would never get in the UK or many other European destinations.
3 pieces of advice from experience -
(1) don't try driving in Athens! Whoah scary - seemingly no road laws there!
(2)cover up in Orthodox places of worship - men and women.
(3) learn a few greetings and please + thank you - goes a long way.
Enjoy - lucky you :-)

Good suncream .
And about the Ouzo you can drink it with water yes, but real Greeks (and also me!) drink it straight and no ice, is much better and you don't have then that milky water thing.
Really, Greece is fantastic, the people are very kind and always helpful enjoy!
