When I try to turn on my computer, it beeps, shows the HP splash screen, then goes black and tells me to run FDISK with a command prompt like C:/ and that's it. This computer is about 7 years old. I bought it with Windows ME on it and have since upgraded to XP Pro. Is there a way I can get my computer back, or should I use this for an excuse to get a new laptop?

I have tried reformatting it with the original disk it came with, but it says it will only work with an HP Pavilion. How frustrating! My computer is just that! I don't understand why it won't accept the disk. It's what my computer came with. Any other suggestions? rellimztik_arual@yahoo.com.

No Need to go for a new computer unless and untill its required for some special purpose.
You just need to format the harddisk. If it contains bad sectors then you need to replace only harddisk and get the operating system installed. You will Save Money!!!

You were told to run FDISK with parameter C:/. I don't have this program, but I think it's for formatting. I'm sorry, but your computer is fubar (f***ed up beyond all repair). Buy a new one. It's the time.
