Hello,

(ANS) The BT Home Hub is designed to be easy to setup (ha!! what a total joke!!), its obvious to someone like myself who is technically knowledgable that the home hub is an extremely complex device.

Its basically as far as I can see a wireless internet router/modem which also has extra (additional) functionality more like a small PC and is designed to plugin & update itself over a phone line. Therefore I'd suggest to you that it might be designed for dynamic IP addressing only (unless you know otherwise of course?) it goes off and gets an IP address from a BT remote server somewhere, it does its own software updates, offers voice of IP (internet phone calls).

**My guess is home hub WONT connect to the internet without a dynamic IP address which it sources automatically by itself. I would be suprised if such a device allowed for manual (static) IP and non UPNP too?

**If your an advanced & experienced computer user and you know for certain that home hub can take a static IP then fine. I wouldnt want to tell you otherwise but IMO its designed to work without much user setup input as far as I can see from the limited technical information BT show on their site. Good luck with that!!

You are not offering enough information ta have this question answered properly. Is it actually functioning as a hub or is it really a router you refer to? Does this device function as modem and router? Are you wanting to use the wireless access? Do you have a static IP assigned to your broadband service or did you need static IPs assigned to your computers?

I would assume that you are trying to set up a router if I had to guess, not a hub. I would also assume a modem - that you have called your provider and they have pinged to make sure your Internet is properly working.

With that, connect the router directly to the computer (into a numbered port - not the WAN port) using an ethernet cable. Follow the instuctions and just reset the router. restart the computer. Open internet exlorr and type in 192.168.1.1 (or whatever the default IP is to access the router as identified in your documentation). log in with the default user and password. If you have DSL you will probably need to select PPOE from the main set up screen. If you are on cable you should be able to select automatic configuration DHCP OR If you have a STATIC IP address you would select static IP here. You need to SAVE the settings on every page that you make chages to in the router.

(If entering static IP) You would be prompted for assigned IP info which should be provided by your provider. The WAN IP (the static IP), the subnet mask, the gateway and two DNS IP addresses - SAVE.

The upnp option will be included in one of the setup screens in the router - enable or disable it and save the page.

Set up your DHCP or disable it. Generally you want to enable it. If you save and log out you should be ready to try out the system.

If you are setting up wireless make sure it is enabled, choose the the most flexible option for a "mixed" network, channel 6 is the default but sometimes channel 11 can be better. You can try 11 if 6 does not work.Enable the ssid broadcast call it whatever but choose a single word for the ssid name.

shut everything down (leave it off for a few minutes). connect a ethernet cable from the modem to the wan port on the router (DO NOT HAVE THE USB CABLE CONNECTED TO THE MODEM P- YOU CANNOT GENERALLY USE BOTH) . connect a router port to the computer. Turn on the modem first (make sure the modem is not in standby mode), router second and computer third.

If your computer does not connect hard wired there may be a problem with your ethernet card, cable or router. If it does connect test the wireless - if it doesn't work try channel 11 mentioned as lised above (shut everything down and re-hook up the computer to the router).

If, you still can't connect wirelessly you may have a wireless card that does not work with the router. Your card has to be compatible with the router - wireless G, A, B or N?
