i am wondering if it really is a combo or a cd rom. how will i know

combo means that the drive is either a cd-rom reader and writer, or both cd and dvd reader & writer. the dvd s/ware u downloaded should have an option to set up the region code if this is the 1st time u have installed a software dvd player

Hi,
You should see the logo for both cd & dvd rom on te front panel of the disc drive. but you say you downloaded dvd players off the internet prob if they are not area 1 compatable as thats the uk's DVD code

Take any disk out of the drive and go to my computer. WIth no disc in it should say whether it is CD or DVD. you can also right click on the drive and select properties and then hardware. If you have Nero there is also a hardware checker

wtf is a combo supposed to mean? on the front of it, it should say cdrom, dvd burner. ect.
