Depends on their age. Sometimes young teenage girls haven't really come into their sexuality yet. Some people are so fulfilled by their sexual partner(s) that there's no need for it. And older people (as well as a very few people of normal reproductive age) don't have a high enough hormone level. My daughter, for instance, tells me she has a very low interest in sex and doesn't masturbate. She has absolutely no reason to lie - she knows it's weird not to masturbate; I believe her. But chances are, when people say this, they are lying.

We have inherited the last remaining vestige of a religious prohibition against spilling seed. Thousands of years ago, population wasn't what it is now. The existence of humanity was in doubt. Masturbation and homosexuality was a threat to the survival of the species.

Have you seen the movie, Kinsey? True story. It was revealed that Kinsey's father, back at the turn of the century, was a compulsive masturbator from the age of 11. His parents had his hands bound when he slept. He supposedly overcame his desire to masturbate and became vehemently anti-sexual. Kinsey, in reaction, became adamantly pro-sexual. Interesting movie; you might enjoy it.

For myself, I consider it must-erbation :)

Seriously....I did my own type of "survey" from 1992-1997, asking pretty much everyone I met if they masturbated. Results were interesting; ( I live in Europe and travel in Asia / USA / C America for work - so had a good polling base)

The majority responded as follows;

Str8 Men USA - most said no
Gay men USA - most said yes
Str8 & Gay women USA - most said F....Off.
Str8 & Gay women Asia - most said no
Str8 & Gay women Europe - most said yes...they even described how !!
French men (gay & straight) - most no
German men " most no
Italian men " most yes
Spanish men " most yes

NOTE: People answered me because I "threw" the question and waited their reaction ...without saying another word. Only when they answered or reacted did I explain that I was NOT interested in the reply...but rather in their reaction.

Now to answer your question.....I think everyone has tried masturbation. Some people may practice more than others. WOMEN are more honest about it.

In regards to "why" it's considered disgusting or "taboo"...I have no idea.

If there's no reason to doubt them, then why doubt? I don't masturbate, I never really had the urge to. I have friends who supposedly masturbate multiple times throughout the day. I was never really "taught" that it was bad, but then again I was never taught about it either. I don't exactly consider it disgusting. I just consider it unnecessary.

I 've done it maybe....I don't know. Five times all my life by my own will?

No I don't believe them. Yes I do think it's a lie. It's considered disgusting because of (some) church mores that consider it selfish (when it is self-gratifying). This is why children are taught it is bad

There is no reason to believe.
Its like if someone says "I never lie in my life" which itself is the biggest lie.
The 2nd biggest lie is I don't masterbate.
And who does not musterbate is either insane or impotent.

Our parents thought its wrong so we are braught up like this. I still remember my mother's cry and shout when she discovered that I do musterbate (at my age of 15).

I guess they are just too ashamed to admit that they masturbate just like the rest of us, there is nothing wrong with loving your body. It is a loving release and that is all there is to it. It is not disgusting, it is beautiful to be able to love yourself. :)

Some people HAVEN'T.

Either they aren't educated in what masturbation really is, or like you said, their entire life they have been told it is bad and evil, so out of fear, they haven't.

A book should be written geared towards this particular topic. There is a book called "Everbody Poops."

There should be one called "Everyone touches themselves."
