We're surrounded by a magnetic shield that blocks out many harmful rays. We also have the Ozone layer (Which is being depleted) that helps protect the earth's surface from dangerous rays.

Also, we're -just- the right distance away to not be charred into charcoal.

Because of our atmosphere. Remember it can't burn the earth, but it can burn your skin.
