Just a plain cotton shirt - will it ruin the color or anything? Should I wash it separately next time?

It's white vinegar.

Just rinse it in cold water until you get the vinegar out, then hang it up to dry, then launder as usual in warm or cold water.

Vinegar is used to dye Easter eggs so you do not want to launder it with clothes that might bleed (like red) would dye the cotton shirt another color where the vinegar was.

White vinegar no, apple cider vinegar no and maybe.
Separate washing doesn't seem necessary. Perhaps a quick rinse in the sink before the washing machine would be a safe bet.

I use vinegar for cleaning so much. Did you know that vinegar will remove paint from walls, carpets, clothing, and whatever else? I use it to clean my coffee pot and garbage disposal. If you put dish soap in vinegar together to dishes and clean counters, you will be amazed at how clean and shinny things are. Did you know that vinegar acts as anti-bacteria? Using it does the same as anti-bacteria cleaning products and costs so much less. I could go on and on because I am a budgeter and use least expensive things. Vinegar is one of the best and cheapest.
