all things in time a related to each other. the present becomes the past. the future becomes the present. so techinically, everything's connected.
what happened in the past could affect present either in a good way. example, you hurt someone terribly before, and now you are faced with the regret and consequence of what you did. another example, you worked really hard at your job before and now you could get promoted.
the present also affects the future. you are faced with challenges and all sorts of stuff. you choose what path to take to get to that certain point in the future (whether you have a definite plan or not). the choices you make in the present help determine your future.
in spite of the close relationship of varying time periods, there's still a balance in that relationship. the past does not dictate or govern the present or future but it could contribute a part to what would be. the present is a chance to decide and take that step into what is to come. the future is your goal which you could achieve through the influence of the past and what you do in the present.

whatever you do in the present will become a part of the past the following day or hour. and whatever you do in the past is related to the future. we are what we do. the future is a result of our past and present. it is influenced by our actions.

We perceive things in a consciousness built on memories. Memories obviously come from the past. Thus, we perceive the present and future with what we know from the past. In the meantime, past is linearly growing, while the present is present for only as much time as you can perceive it as such. Future is (presumably), infinite.
It's all related, but not linearly. Not past+present=future

Since the 'past' and 'future' do not exist except as concepts in your mind the 'Present' only relates to the 'Present'.
