WATER SCRYING
You will need a large, deep bowl made from glass, brass or silver. It must have a smooth and even rim.
You must set your base on some sort of tripod for best results. A tripod made of laural boughs is the best.

You will need to do your own testing to find out which bowl works best for you and how much water you should use. Do not use water from a tap. Get clean, fresh water from a stream.

The ancient Greeks believed that nature spirits dwelled in fresh water. The water may be stored in a vessel and used again.

However it is a good idea to replace your water once a month. Never collect the water of a day time. Water should only be collected at night preferably on a full moon.

To make your wand use a branch from a bay tree, hazel tree or the laural. The end of the wand should be covered in dry tree sap or resin.

Dip the end of the wand into the water until it becomes wet. Wet the rims of the bowl.

The best time to scy is at night when it is quite. By gently drawing the rim of the wand around the bowl it will cause it to resonate.

The action of the resonating basin will cause circular ripples to form in the basin. The water seems to breathe with the sounds.

It is the harmonics that seem to whisper forth predictions of the future. These are interpreted with the help of a gaurdian angel.

You may also recieve visual impressions which Nostradamus likened to that of a "burning mirror".

Scrying simply means looking into the future, whether it be with a crystal ball, a bowl of ink, a tea cup ,or the entrails of a living being.

Water scrying is using water, sometimes a lake at night under a full moon, a bowl of water in a darkened room, etc. It really is another form of mirror scrying ie lighting a candle next to a mirror in a darkened room to see the future.

Water is believed to be a conductor of psi energies, therefore people who scry say they find water easier to connect with. To my mind it is an ancient way of meditating and connecting with your subconscious, which often has the answers you seek. After all you pick up more information than is often required so your brain sensors the information, so you can get on with every day living.

Don't forget that time is not linear, our minds simply see it that way for convenience. Getting in touch with your subconscious by passes linear time lines.

There are many answers above me with the answer as to the general "What is?" question.

I am speaking from experience on this, as Water is the tool that I generally use to scry with. You are not given a clear image of things, unfortunately. You generally will see symbols. These symbols can be anything from a basic human form to a tree to a pencil. It is your ability to interpret these symbols that makes you successfully at scrying.

I have seen many methods of scrying. One using water and a black cauldron with a silver coin ( a nickel or quarter) . Placed in the bottom. You take it outside at night and catch the moons light on the coin.
Here is a site with much more information then I could give you. There are also some books by Silver Raven Wolf that are a good source.

Water scrying was a common feature of pagan and shamanistic cultures because of its connections with nature. The water concerned was often the surface of a smooth lake and it was common to scry by the light of the moon.

Once technology evolved to allow the production of mirrors, these provided a more convenient alternative to water scrying. Many modern pagans still prefer the natural connection to water and the feeling of oneness that it gives.

It's a myth that if you concentrate in a mirror or a pool of water (Commonly water) You will be able to "See without sight". See things as they really are, or perhaps see what is to come.

Scrying (As the rumor tells) takes up a lot of physical and mental energy. Even the masters of scrying cannot scry more than a few moments. You can only scry a place you have been before.
