Directors are apart of management.
You have top management, middle management, management, then employees.
Directors fall under middle management. Top management are just people that controls the government aspect of the organization and usually have a lot invested into the company.
Its difficult to come up with all the different jobs that are considered management, because management is just a responsibility. You can find the responsibility of management in every job. It has been proven that management is the key ingredient in establishing and maintaining a successful organization.
To give you an example of how management is vital in any organization; look at the computer industry. Lets concentrate on computer programmers. Before 2000, companies just hired computer programmers (at different levels, of course, entry to senior level programmers) that were on their own. They would start a project and work on it until it was finished. There was no management to keep the project on track. As a result, computer programming jobs went to countries that could do the work faster, cheaper, and to the same quality. United States programmers were costing companies an unnecessary amount of money because they took to long to complete a project, or they had to start over so many times. At $40,000-80,000 a year, it is expensive when you hire someone to do work for you and they take so long to do one project. Now computer programming jobs are coming back. Not as high pay, but now companies are hiring Project Managers. These people possess a lot of skill and experience in starting and finishing a project. They know how to keep the project on task. They have a good idea of what works and what doesn't. Their motto is, eliminate all wasted resources. Maybe you can't eliminate all, but you can come close.
Management is just a whole another area of expertise that adds additional responsibility to a particular type of job to make work more efficient and effective.
It is definately a great skill to possess. Without it, companies would fall apart.
If you need some jobs/careers with management responsibilities, here are some:
Software Engineer - They manage other programmers. They also do programming too, but they help with the management of projects. Programmers report to the Software Engineer. The Software Engineer reports to the Project Management
Senior Programmer - Similar to Software Engineer. Just different names depending on what organization you are working for.

I appreciate a manager who is kind, supportive and easy to talk to, but at the same time is not just trying to be your friend. A manager who also does his or her own work, not just constantly looking over your shoulder or being too nitpicky. A manager who gives feedback in a positive, constructive way. A manager who forgives you when you mess up and allows you to grow.
