okay you people are slow, i was making an example i know i had said he deserves to be punished, but my point every country is different, ours claims to others we are free yea originally the country was but then after news laws and new laws all contridicting each other does this not make any sense? why are we at war with a country that hates us? did anyone stop to think why they dont like us? if i was there i would want to blow us up too. americans are selfish! only caring about money and power. thats why ciggeretes are legal and weed is not nether should be legal nor should beer be. but it is why? the tax!! cant tax something you can grow. the govn. makes these laws bcause they know they will be broke so they can make money off of it. my boyfriend will be paying 1,000 for 2grams of w**d thats a class b misd. but if he was to have had 2 ounces it would cost the same. 2 grams - 2 ounces big difference (like i said just am example)

The US is not free by any means. Everything we say, do, eat, consume, watch, read, learn, write, worship, is regulated by the US government. That is not free.

I wonder if the people who bought drugs from your boyfriend are free from those drugs, yet.
Selling drugs is NOT a "mistake." Dropping a vase on the floor is a mistake. Selling drugs is a premeditated choice.
If your boyfriend has truly mended his ways, great. He'll do his time, stay clean while doing his time, and then you can get on with your lives. There are consequences to the choices we make. And as stated before, hopefully, those who chose to buy drugs from your boyfriend, hopefully they have made better choices, too, since then.
Re: ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Your boyfriend broke the law. He is a criminal. Period. What's not to understand? What's not free? Every drug dealer who is put away is one less drug dealer on the street. So sad that your nice life was disturbed... but the old saying goes: DON'T DO THE CRIME, IF YOU CAN'T DO THE TIME.

If you compare Saddam who had people brought in before him for doing nothing but being at the wrong place at the wrong time and beaten for his pleasure to Mr. Bush and Mrs. Bush's campaign to stamp out illiteracy. America is as free as a bird.
Anyone who doesn't look at this as realize how completely different these two governments are can go live in Iran and the like and be happy.

Free doesn't mean you can break the laws of the country. We get to vote, we can worship in our own way, we are free to choose what we do in this life. That doesn't mean we can break the laws that are made by the people who we elect to office.
God also made arsenic doesn't mean we should smoke, distribute or ingest it.
Your boyfriend had the freedom of choice to do what he did.
Our government is by and far less, corrupt than so many. But it is by far better than many other countries, some of which would be far more strict with your boyfriend than putting him in jail (Saudi Arabia for example or Iran which would have put him to death, sometimes by stoning)
Freedom doesn't mean free to break the laws put in place by our elected officials. There are people who dedicate their lives to advocacy and other ways to keep our government more honest, it's not a perfect system this is true, but it is by far better than many places in this world.

Your boyfriend is a bad person and deserves to go to prison for what he's done. Only an idiot would blame the government for what your boyfriend did. If weed was legal, your boyfriend would have sold a different kind of drug. That's what drug dealing pieces of **** do. You made the decision to be with a criminal. Live with it.

To be truly free also includes being able to hurt others. I prefer the word "Liberty." The Founding Fathers did not use the word 'freedom', but rather, they used 'liberty'. Liberty brings to mind freedom, but one with responsibilities. And it happens to be something that only those who appreciate it can have. They know not to abuse it too much, for then their freedoms will then have to be limited and regulated.

ok you are taking the fact that your boyfriend got arrested for breaking a reasonable law a bit far. He deserves to be locked up. America isn't free to the point where laws are thrown out the window, there would be nothing good about that.

America is now a police state. I have moved to Vietnam and have many more freedoms. If you want to smoke a joint while having a beer go for it. Drink a beer while walking down the street or riding behind on a motor bike to name a few.

No one is TRULY free.
America gives us many more liberties than other countries. We have freedom of speech, freedom of press, the right to gather in a group, we have the right to select our own president, our own religion and family views.
There are countries where you are TOLD what you're going to do and TOLD what to believe.
No one is truly free.
America is slightly more free than others.
