If this insomnia has been long lasting say for months or weeks without really giving in, try some over the counter sleep stuff like Advil PM. If that does not work there are pleanty of safe non addicting prescription meds you can take.

I have had a severe sleeping problem in the past. I tried different types of sleeping pills, but they all, at most, would cause me to sleep for about four hours and then wake up, unable to fall back asleep. In fact, even a sleeping pill prescribed by a doctor, called Sonata, caused this same problem.

Eventually, a psychiatrist prescribed Prozac for me. I suddenly slept perfectly every night. I would sleep a straight eight or nine hours per night and be perfectly refreshed all the following day. Although Prozac is not a sleeping pill, it works much better than does a sleeping pill. Plus, it helps to get rid of depression and anxiety.

You could be having sleeping difficulties because of depression or anxiety. There are many medicines out there for depression and anxiety, and many of them would help a person get perfect sleep. Obviously, only a doctor can prescribe the right medicine for you.

try a B complex in the morning to give you enough energy to get through the day which makes you feel physically ready for sleep at night, then take a herbal formula that has any of these herbs in it at night time before sleep: lemonbalm, passionflower, hops, chamomile.
Take the sleep formula 10 min before sleep then again if you wake up.

Apart from this, obviously address any anxiety, worries etc from your day and the possibility of an over active lifestyle that doesnt allow for enough recuperation time...good luck :)
