you could go to 5 different naturopaths with the same symptoms and get 5 completely different treatment...I always found that fascinating. it doesn't mean 1 is right it's just because there are different ways of tackling health problems. Take something like a headache....1 naturopath might look at restricting foods that could be triggering, 1 might look at possible vitamin deficiencies, 1 might use relaxing herbs, 1 might use massage or physical adjustment and 1 might use relaxation and meditation methods. Of course, I believe a good naturopath will offer a few different treatment aspects.

So to answer the bit about herbs....Lots of herbs do more than one thing (eg ginger improves circulation, concentration, decreases inflammation, nausea and upset stomachs) so it often comes down to how a naturopath has been trained, what herbs are available at the time, and what they've used in the past with good success. At least thats how i do it :)

As the previous response said - there are many ways to deal with any individual problem.

However, I think you are confusing the term "naturopath" with "homeopathy"

Naturopathy effectively covers all natural ways of treating a problem. What they have in common is that they aim to treat the CAUSE of theproblem, rather than the symptom, which is what modern medicine tends to do.

Homeopathy is the use of natural substances (including some herbs) in minute doses to treat various medical issues.

Herbal medicine is different again!

Whilst each approach is valid, some may work better for you than others or might be better suited to your lifestyle - only you and your practitioner know best!

Nature cure and home remedies help a lot. Of course one must make sure what to use for what. In fact I have found this website very helpful when I wanted a nature cure/home remedy for a sore throat - http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html
