There was a show on the History Channel called "Skeletons on the Sahara" that was very interesting to me. The story of Captain James Riley was a classic that was extremly popular in it's day and deeply influenced Abraham Lincoln.

So, my question is, "If I were to just read one book, which would you recommend"?

A True Story of Survival by Dean King

or

Sufferings in Africa by James Riley

(or another, if there is one, that you'd recommend).

Which is the best read and why?

"Sufferings in Africa" by James Riley. Who better to describe these events than the person who survived them.

I watched this documentary and was very interested in it too... I think I'm going to read Sufferings in Africa by James Riley because I loved the way he wrote. He expressed himself so eloquently and what better way to gain insight into someone's experience than to read it written by them first hand. Maybe if you want to read the other book we can tell each other what we think...
