Without any doubt: "THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW"!!
At last our politicians understand the threat of Global Warming toward our world.... My only regret is that we all have to learn it in hard way. We lose half of our country, but we all surely learn something from our mistake on the past....
BTW, I also love the scene where the American croseed Rio Grande illegaly into Mexico. Such a nice satire there!
Second option would be "INDEPENDENCE DAY"!!
We've lost the battle against Alien invasion initially, but then we retaliate and strike back. Even our very own president stands and fights in the Final Battle!! I will never forget his speech before the war. It really makes me proud as American... I will die for my country with president like that!
He fights alongside us and ensures us to be victorius in the end! Not like someone who sent our troops to Afghan and Iraq while he himself just fooling around safely inside the White House... we don't even know whether we've truly won the war or not....

The Last American Virgin is the movie it is an 80's teen comedy but I think the unhappy ending is realistic compared to a lot of what was out in that genre at the time. The ending and other parts of the film was an accurate portrayal of teenage unrequited love.

I am with you on that one. Day After Tomorrow was an awesome film, and made you think scary thoughts!
But the other "end of the world" movie that comes to mind as being awesome was "Armageddon!" Brilliant. I have watched it loads of times, and am never disappointed.

Armageddon, I just love how Bruce Willis is such a hard *** in the movie and then makes the ultimate sacrifice just for his daughter to be happy with Ben Affleck.

The classic "On the Beach" black and white (for stark reality) starring Gregory Peck, Deborah Kerr, Fred Astaire and a raft of other fine actors. It leaves me with an empty feeling.
