The test is not painful. You will have to put your feet in stirrups and the doctor will put a speculum inside of you so she can examine you. She will then take a swab of your cervix. And then continue with the internal examination. Really only takes about 5 minutes. Make a list of any questions or concerns you have before going so you can ask (and not forget) while you are there.

i think- although i do not obviously understand what changed into carried out- that the Pap smear indicated unusual cells or likely cancerous cells (do not panic- till you get the information). this would result from certain strains of HPV-those are literally not the strains that reason genital warts. - The Pap smear tests for unusual cells, not mainly HPV . there's a DNA attempt for HPV that could want to even were carried out and that could want to element out the "intense danger" HPV virus. however some components say the DNA attempt isn't just about as good because it is going to likely be- i have not researched that adequate to remark. you somewhat favor to search for suggestion from out of your time-honored practitioner and get the information about what actual attempt(s) they did, and what the outcomes do- or *would* - element out. From what I really have checked, it skill little or not something to the being pregnant. examine the first link for suggestions on that. the 2d for time-honored HPV information

a few of the people who have answered the question have said it is humilating and embarassing ... and I have to say it isn't the most pleasant thing to have to go through ...
BUT ... for the price of a little embarassment and discomfort you are making sure that you MIGHT be able to get an early detection of cervical cancer.. which would give you a better chance of survival ...
Cervical Cancer Vacinations are a new thing that will also save lives ... but it is reccommended that people still have Pap tests ..
It was interesting to read that people still use stirups .. none of my doctors use them
It's something THAT may save your life AND that is what matters the most.

No, its not painful, but its humiliating and makes you uncomfortable with a stranger looking at your coochie.
You got your legs wide open and up in stirrups while you lay on your back on the examing table. Then the doc uses a speculm to pry open your coochie insides so he/she can use a long Qtip to get a sample to put on a petrie dish to be sent to the lab.
I personally rather chew broken glass.......

Painful no, discomforting YES! You lay on your back as the GYN lubricates your vagina with K-Y gel, then inserts a plastic tong type device inside you, only to open your vagina a little bit to use a long Q-Tip to swab the inside of the vagina walls. it take just a few moments.

Some of these girls are telling you it's humiliating. More important, is that there is NO other method. Must be you girls were meant to be humiliated then. Get Over IT ! We men don't want to penetrate a vagina that is not healthy. Besides, 'sfor your own good!
