cervical dilitatin is obtained through a manual exam always using only 2 fingers. 1cm dilitatin is about the size of your index finger around...depending on the size of your finger. There is a chart that you go by that tells you what the exam actually is. No matter how far dilated you are, the doctor never uses more than 2 fingers to assess this! Ten is when the cervix is no longer felt around the presenting part.

It's very simple really; one fingertip is about 1cm dilated, so on and so forth. It is a rough estimate which is why it will change from one person to the next. A nurse may come in and check, saying the woman is about 4cm and a doctor comes in 5 min later only to say 3.5-4 or 5cm. Everyone's fingers and estimates are slightly different. They can tell you are 10 cm or complete when they can no longer feel any cervix.

The estimation is via centimeters, no longer via what number of palms can have compatibility. Before you succeed in one million cm they do degree with a fingertip, however truthfully, I have had four distinct medical professionals and nurses investigate me within the final few days and all mentioned the equal factor with out understanding what the others mentioned. If the physician mentioned you're 2cm dialated then you're two cm dialated. No query approximately it.

No, 1 finger is not 2 centemeters, closer to 1. Look at a ruler. With a bit, a very little bit, of practice, you can reasonably, accurately measure dilation and effacement, as well as station, by a quick, and not uncomfortable, manual exam. I was doing it by my second month of internship.

Yeah, one index finger= 2 cm. Whenever you are fully dilated they will be able to stick 5 fingers in you.

ok but what if they have short fingers and cant get them in all the way up to your cervix. I cant fit my longest finger all the way to the back. mine are too short. so according to this they eventually stick their entire hand inside of you for 10 cm? ...hard to imagine....

when ob-gyn's start their training they are taught to measure their fingers and remember the size. this gives them a rough but pretty accurate method for measurement.

yes, you're right. When a doctor/midwife checks your dilation they use their fingers.Your fingers measure 2cm so they work it out that way.If you're 6cm dilated they can get 3 fingers in.Not very pleasant i know bit it beats a cold piece of metal getting shoved up you!
