Are we allowed to show national pride these days? I thought that by doing so we would be prosecuted for offending the minorities that live here.

I must say, I'm English and have never been called arrogant for taking about anything to do with English/national pride.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Colonialist, but I think it probably all started when we started giving everything back! (A bit like the Romans - where are they now?)
We seem to be in a peculiar situation where we are somewhat "on the run" - we give in and give up to everyone and everything so now people see us as soft (i.e. put down) and when something/one is down, you don't allow it/them to get back up (that's human nature).
Therefore any show of 'Pride' might be deemed that we intend to return to power, our old ways (Colonialism) and therefore it is to be beaten down.
On the other hand it could be that we are enlightened and realise that the only way to live together is to not have a British National Pride and allow people from other Countries to work in our markets (unlike say, the Russians!)
Of course this in itself may eventually become to be seen as a sort of 'inverse' pride. Anyway it will take absolutely ages for the rest of the world to see this point of view and become a truly great and united 'human' race, especially if the Americans are constantly used as the 'light' we lack to show us the way!
America, F**k Yeah!
(But we'll probably just go the way of the Romans!)

What do the English say about the "patriotic" Americans. It's probably not too positive.
Each nation has it's National Ego.

Haha, yea, that sounds like something that an arrogant american might say about someone showing some pride in their flag.
Not that the English have much to be proud of at the moment... Their cricket team getting completely smashed in the Ashes...

I've rarely, if ever, heard a British person called arrogant, but it's right to point out that too much national pride, as you call it, can be dangerous.

Because Americans, in general, are narcissists. (I know because I am American born.) They always have to be at the front of the parade. Take pride in your country! I don't care if you're French. Be proud of who you are, and where you come from. Beside, you'll always kick our butts in football.
