Why? And do you get upset with the person who receives the treatment or the person who gave the special treatment to that person, or both people?

depends upon what the circumstances are. there are times when preferential treatment needs to be given. standing in line older people with canes should be considered. going through doors a gentleman should hold the door open for a lady, a lady with children with a few groceries I allow to go ahead of me. these are a couple of examples where preferential treatment doesn't bother me.

No one minds if someone receives preferential treatment, so long as that someone is them.

It depends on why they're given preferential treatment. If their status warrants it, then no, it doesn't bother me.

But if it's based on superficial things like skin color or economic status, then yes, it pisses me off to no end.
