Try removing the ball cover on the base of the mouse. Remove the ball and then use a tooth pick or similar to remove the junk from the little rollers the ball rests on.

Remove the ball and clean.
Also look into the hole and there should be two rollers. It should look as if there is a "rubber coating around them.
remove this rubber type coating as it is from the ball and also bits of skin from you. Just scrape it all off with a tooth pick or match stick.
Although I would recommend investing in a laser mouse.

I had this problem cured by changing from ps2 mouse to usb.
Just read above post it wasn't the conection that was the problem but the roller on the mouse.

Remove the ball and clean it, but also clean the rollers the ball moves against too, then clean the mouse mat.
But I should invest in a laser mouse, they are really cheap now (Staples)

yes to all the above, i tried cleaning it and after that resorted to laser mouse - much better! Also check out your mouse mat, some are lot "slidy-er" than others, trial and error!

take out the ball and remove the dirt off the rollers inside, it will be as good as new

go buy a new one i live in jamaica and it about 300 dollor with is about 5 dollor us i am positive it is cheaper there
