Specifically how is he better than Supergirl, Superboy, Powergirl, etc. Now I don't want your own opinion, I just want to know why it seems like they all have the same powers, but Superman is always more powerful? Thanks.

All Kryptonian's are similar to Living Solar batteries. The more energy they store up, the stronger they are. Also, the more they mature in age and experience, the more control they have over their powers.

Superman Post-Crisis (Kal-El) is the oldest, and has been working as a Hero the longest. He knows all of his limits and powers. He has also been working the longest to develop his powers and arrived on Earth the youngest. He was trained in some manner by Jor-El as well to learn most of his limits, depending on the origins you follow (Comics (Birthright and Man of Steel), Movies and Smallville)

Supergirl Post-Crisis (Kara Zor-El) is actually evenly matched or slightly more powerful than Superman because of the many years she was exposed to a Yellow Sun, but did not use any of her powers. However, she is not as adapted to using her powers, and does not have the same values that Superman has as far as being a Hero, coupled with the thoughts she was sent to Earth to Kill Superman by her father. Her Pre-Crisis version was about as strong as her.

Note: there are several other Post-Crisis characters with the name Supergirl, but only Kara Zor-El is a Kryptonian. The character Kara In-Ze from Superman the Animated Series is not Kryptonian but comes from Argo, a close by planet that was destroyed by Krypton’s explosion. She is also pretty evenly matched in strength to that Universes Superman, but not as experienced with her powers.

Superboy, the Clone (Kon-El) was only 50% Kryptonian. He did not have as many Cells that worked off of this Solar Power, which is why when he ran out of power in Infinite Crisis he went into the horrible Cellular breakdown. He also had different powers that showed in the future (Titans of Tomorrow) that he would be more powerful as he would learn to use his Telekinetic powers to block magic, an advantage Superman does not have.

Superboy of Earth-Prime is actually more powerful than Superman as he is closer in strength to the Pre-Criss Earth 1 Superman. This strength was shown in Day of Vengeance Infinite Crisis Special he was able to move an entire planet.

Powergirl is a mix of Retcons. She is actually Supergirl of Earth-2 and the Equivalent of Earth-2 (Kal-L) Superman’s powers. She is actually more powerful in some ways than this Superman as the main universe’s Kryptonite does not affect her since she is not technically of this world. She arrived as a teen, and has been powered down at times by various retcons, but as she stands now she is nearly evenly matched.

The most powerful Superman was actually the Pre-Crisis Superman of Earth-1 before the Crisis on Infinite Earths back in 1986. This Superman was nearly godlike in power. He could move planets, go back in time, and had other unique powers depending on who was writing him. This version has been written out of continuity for the most part with the revamp in Man of Steel, but his strengths are now most closely matched by Superboy of Earth-Prime.

Superman of Earth-2 (Kal-L) was originally the weakest for the most part. He could not fly, but could leap over tall buildings in a single bound. Eventually he was powered up more, and in the end he is pretty evenly matched by Superman Post Crisis. He is deceased now after Infinite Crisis.

So, really, yes they do have the same (or similar) powers, but Superman Post Crisis has the advantage of age and experience. The others are just as powerful (Except Kon-El, he is a close second) but they are not as trained with their powers.

Also, as for Powergirl, it depends on who is writing her and what Retcon they are following today, which really I guess is the answer to this whole question. It depends on what the point of the story is, that dictates who is the strongest.

Superman has been on the earth the longest. (Powergirl and Supergirl arrived in their teens) so he has had more time to figure out how to effectively use his powers, so he is more confident.

In the silver-age of comics Superboy was Superman as a boy and had not reached maturity.

Also Kryptonian (Superman's race) powers are based on the absorbtion of solar radiation from a yellow sun (like ours) so since he has been here the longest he has absorbed more.

It has been postulated in the future (DC Comics One Million Series) that Superman would live in the sun with powers in advance to what he has now.

From a writer's point of view he is the lead character so of course he is going to be the most powerful.

Well, since Batman recently died in the comics, I'd say Superman is more talented at staying alive. And he has super-powers. Batman can do a lot of things, but he needs various devices and gadgets to pull them off. Superman can do without. Batman is a better planner, though (or was, before he died).

the current supergirl and powergirl are not related to superman, and superboy is a clone, but not superman's clone... so there is no reason for them to have his powers...

Older? Wiser? Spent more time developing his powers? I don't know. Just a guess.
