Well I am 41 and the last year I can remember their being a party line that my family shared with at least two other neighbors, was when I was 12 years old. So 29 years ago. And yes our phone was permanately affixed to a wall in the kitchen and the phone company owned it.
If you remember this, do you remember how fun it was as a kid to do the forbidden and sneak and listen to others talking?

I remember party lines that were a precursor to today's chat lines (late 70's early 80's). I do remember when phones had cords attached to the walls and the phone company owned the phones. I remember going to the phone store with my mom to pick out the princess phone that I wanted for my room.

Yes that was a long time ago which makes me old. I sure do remember those party lines, they are so annoying I am glad my children dont have to put up with that inconvenience.

And it was a black rotary phone that weighed about 10 pounds. I never had the party line myself, but I remember hearing about them.
I don't remember answering the phone, "Ahoy, ahoy", I'm not THAT old, but I remember the party lines.

Yeah, I remember it. I use to stay with my Grandma when I was a little girl, and she had a party line.
