I am 1 cm dilated and baby is at 1 station, 70% effaced and have a shortened cervix, is it possible I missed the mucous plug passing? I watched the laugh and learn about childbirth DVD today, and she said you lose the plug when you dialate.

My ob didn't mention this, so I am really confused. Can you actually miss it?

I lost mine with my daughter (the night before delivery)--big nasty clot--like a period but nastier. You could NOT NOT know what it was. With my son, I didn't lose it, just some spotting.

Lost of women don't lose their plug at all before birth.

I do know that you can go into labor without passing the plug. I know because I have 3 girls and never saw my plug. Now the plug had to come out but it was during labor. I don't think that the plug would be something you could miss because if I remember right, it will be accompanied by blood.

I have had 4 children and only know for sure that I saw it with one of them, my most recent. I have had "maybe, I don't know, is that it?" kind of things with the others. If you are affaced and dilated you likely passed it already. However I also know from various thngs I have read that it can pass any time between 2 weeks before and up to even during delivery.
Don't worry about it, it's nothing. You are definitely well on your way! Good luck and blessings to you and your little one.

The mucuos plug doesn't always come out in a big clump for every woman... it could leave your body in the form of increased discharge over several days or even weeks before you go into active labor.

Yes, and don't let all those textbooks scare you, trying to keep up with your progress as it is "supposed" to happen can be harder than the labor itself. Every woman is different and Every pregnancy is different, your plug might not pass untill your water breaks, in which case you problably wouldn't notice anyways, so chill out, you will be ok

You could miss it.
It doesn't have to come out whole, it could break up into little bits and come out over a few days.
Anyway if you do notice it, it's not necessarily a sign imminent labor (although you shouldn't completely ignore that possibility) so don't worry about it.

Yes, you can miss the mucous plug when it passes. Most women never even know what it is unless they see it on a video, read about, or work in the medical field b/c most doctors never mention it. It is common for you to not notice it and o.k. if you didn't.

I lost my about 4 weeks before I had my son. I only noticed it because when I went to go to the bathroom I heard a little splash and it was a little mucus with a little blood (bloody show).
