I am 15 1/2 and I just recently got my periods.Yes, I know i am really late. My current height is 156cm but definitley havn't had a growth spurt (even checked with my doctor who has monitored me). My parents are quite tall and from what I have been told by my GP, peadratic doctor and from some people is that once you get your periods, you will start to slow down growing. I am badly concerned...

Well, hello. Here is some info I hope will encourage and help you...

A common variant of the usual growth pattern occurs when a child is shorter than average for most of his or her life, then is late entering puberty. This condition is called constitutional growth delay with delayed adolescence or delayed maturation. More boys than girls seek medical attention for this condition, although it is not known whether it is really more common in boys. These children generally are the shortest among their age-mates. A 10-year-old child with this condition may be about the size of a 7-year-old; their bone age and growth potential will also be more like that of a 7-yearold. Typical children with constitutional growth delay have been behind their age-mates in height since very early in childhood, but have continued to grow at a slow normal rate. They will enter puberty 2, 3 or even 4 years later than other children their age, but will have a normal growth spurt and end up about as tall as their parents. It is not unusual for this type of growth pattern to run in families - often a father remembers that he didn't have his growth spurt or begin shaving until much later than other boys his age or a mother remembers being late starting her periods.

You might mention this to your doctor and see if it is somthing which needs treatment; but perhaps in your case the onset of puberty will feed your growth rate.

Best wishes,
cryllie

I think 156 cm is about 5' 2 1/3". You did get your first period later than most people and I believe you can still grow for the next 1 to 3 years after getting your period. I started my period at 13 and grew 2 1/2 inches over summer vacation in the few months before I turned 16. You can still grow and it's a good sign that your parents are tall. Good luck to you!

First i'm not sure how tall 156cm is. But i wouldn't worry. Everybody is different. I say 19 years old you should stop growing. Changing the topic slightly the thing that really bothers me is plastic surgeons doing breast implants on women who are 16 and 17. That in my oppion is just wrong.

You just may have a growth spurt. Usually women stop growing upwards when they hit 18-years-old.

My brother got put on growth hormones recently. I'm not sure if you can get them when you're that old but I guess it' s worth a shot.
