Your question assumes a fact not in evidence: that stars were created for some purpose. There is no reason to suppose that such a purpose exists; the stars exist because conditions necessary for their creation were met.

it looks like that u believe that god made the stars! ok.fine. lets try to explain u. without having any controversy lets think god made the stars. why? u know everything that happend in the universe, must have reason behind it. stars are made for the human.
when a person get tired of life, he seems to upright his/her vision to the sky to find some energy, explanation,power..what he/she found? the stars...blinking like a forever friend...a patting partner...a source of power to be shined.
when a person try to find his/her future, aim, destiny that shining stars leads the way to became success full.
when a person need the blessings of his/her past away parents..he/she found them among the stars.
thats why Human created God..and God created Stars..

For one, I think that stars possibly arose due to physical processes and serve no purpose other then taring apart matter and ripping space.

Well, our sun is actually a star! If the sun was not there, then we would not be here. That's a good enough reason for me!

The Bible says there were given to men for signs and portents. In other places it says astronomy is an abomination for which God will curse you forever. Tough call.

I see no evidence that there is any god who did any such thing. I think you have deluded yourself. And which of the hundreds of gods in the world are we talking about anyway?
