Knowingly or unknowingly, in some ways, everyone is superstitious, just like blowing the birthday cake candles for wishes, or dropping a spoon or fork would mean a visitor is expected, or Friday the 13th such an unlucky day, etc... etc.

I, myself is an Engineer, tag along with superstitions. When Engineers construct buildings, certain superstitious beliefs are followed, such as: the main entrance should not be facing the west as it would bring bad luck, the number of steps should not be divisible by 3, bury old coins under foundations bring good luck, etc.

I would say, it is our way of life and I don't see it harmful.

Superstitions and "wives tales" are an interesting study.
Like walking under a ladder being bad luck. If you bump the ladder you can get hurt.
Take for instance the 'wisdom" of an owl. Looking at a regular brown barn owl he has an intelligent look. When I feed him it can smart. he does like fresh meat and is not above nipping my thumb. I guess you could say he is a teacher.
I never understood the theory of the rabbit's foot. That seems a little gross.
The old wives tail about an apple a day, holds some value.
Not filling oil lamps after dark makes a great deal of sense as does putting your hands on window glass in winter.
Lucky charms do work if you believe in them unconditionally. I still can't deal with the rabbit's foot though.
Some superstitions have value. Some are silly and others are just disgusting!
