I am an American Christian women. I am divorced from my Egyptian Moslem husband. He did not allow me to learn Arabic. It was obvious why. Prior to leaving Eygpt, he fooled me into saying some Arabic words into our tape recorder to see if it was working properly. He told me that when I go through the airport to be sure to repeat those words! I did not, and he kept the tape. When I returned to the USA, I searched for the Arabic words and what he had me say was something to the effect that I was against Sharia law! What could have happened to me in the airport had I repeated those words? And what could have happened to me if he had given that tape to someone?

Oh dear, u had one hell of husband!

Why don't u share the words with us so that we can determine how offensive, I mean how bad is bad?

anyways, nothing would have happened to you. He was probably counting on u pissing off some official in the airport by saying anti-Islamic words. They would not have arrested you, but religions in this part of the world is very very important and people are very protective of Islam. Example; cartoons in Denmark. That is what he was counting on, public rage to hurt you that is all.

But I must also warn you that depending on how offensive the words were, there was still a chance you could have been apprehended. If you had directly Insulted the prophet Mohamed or Islam, again far fetched especially if you are a foreigner who does not speak the language but there is a slight possibility.

He sure was desperate!

ps: Shari'a law is not implemented in Egypt.

well they were mostly would not hurt u coz they will understand that u dont mean it as ur experience with Arabic would come only from Arabians so most properly they would have understand it as a sick joke from a silly person. put also i wanna say something if someone get angry u have to understand why. the best way to do it by putting urself in their shoes. if an Arab Muslim spoke bad about the holy Bible what would u feel

the men at the airport will probably smile at your face and ask you: "who told you to say that?" laugh a little, and bid you farewell.
