This happened to me when I gained a few pounds but perhaps that doesn't apply to you. When a zipper is kaput it can only be replaced there is nothing to do to "make" it work. Depending on how much the jeans cost it may be worth just to toss them off to goodwill and start over with a new pair.

But if you're intent on fixing it yourself and preserving your jeans..here's a good site

Wearing a belt might help because it will relieve some of the pressure on the zipper. If this doesn't work and you don't want to replace the zipper (which a seamstress at a local dry-cleaner could probably do for less than $10), try using a discretely- placed safety pin.

1) Hey everyone check out the pattern on my boxers! 2) They can prove that they aren't going to try to run from cops because they'd trip. 3) Easy mooning, intentional or not. 4) Do you know how expensive belts and pants are? 5) I like to expose my underwear because I enjoy wedgies. 6) Suspenders? Can you legally require those? Damn. 7) Ooh! Ooh! Pick me! I love looking like a clown! 8) Just trying to be offensive and be cool about it. (Dude, if I'd wanted to see that, I woulda gone to the locker room with you!) 9) The willingness to demonstrate that they spent $100 on shoes, $70 on pants, $80 on the jersey, and $4 for 3 pairs of boxers. 10) They enjoy hearing people shout "Hey! Pull up your pants!" Best of luck. Hope I was helpful. D (Any particular reason you posted this here?)

maybe the pants are just to small I think you should take them back and trade them for another pair or you could just give them away.
and if the pants are not to little maybe it's just something wrong with the zipper.

smash it a little with a really small hammer and punch on the part that closes around the strip. It will then "grip" a little harder. Not much or it will just be sticky then.

That means that the pants are too small. Get new pants!

Try rubbing rosin on it. It's a tacky resin used on violin bows.

Get bigger pants. Or visit a tailor.
