I'm 52 and am going back to school to be a social worker. The field that I'm going into has funds available for students who want to go back to school and there are lots of jobs available. Some jobs like nursing is in such demand that the hospitals will give you a paycheck, pay for your school and promise you a job when you're done. Check out a nearby junior college and talk with a counselor to see what's available. I'm afraid that education and work is the only way to make a better future.

Well, you can use the Internet. See if there are local agencies who will help you put together a good resume and give you some job hunting skills. They may also have leads on businesses which will train you while you work.
30 is not old at all. You may go through a lot of jobs before finding the one that is right for you.

Jimmy, to be 30 and only 8k in debt... I'm 51 and too embarrassed to tell you how in debt I'm in. But, get this, I've been a housewife for 13 years and might decide to live on my own for personal reasons, and I just applied for a job that I think I'll like, am going Tuesday to an adult school to sign up for a fine program to teach me office skills-the other plus, I'll get to learn all those fine applications I have on this computer, and... I just started my own home based business-to be done by referral. Plus, maybe I can finnish writing the rest of that novel-135 pages thus far-the one I put away while raising my dear stepson who is all raised up. Life is full of opportunity for us "oldies". Your not trapped, dear, just look around and take your pick of what you want to do. I am assuming that you have no one but yourself to look after. Gosh, to be there again.

How about training for a job in an area with strong future demand (nursing, accounting, ...?)? Or a government job (might be an opportunity for steady full-time employment with benefits and a chance for promotion). Maybe consider college on a part time evening basis so you can work during the day.

You can test for jobs working for the state. The tests aren't complicated and have nothing to do with the actual job your hired for. There are many entry level positions. You can check your states website. I can post California's website for you but I don't know where your at. A simple search will find it. Once you go to work for the state, you draw good wages, have all holiday's off, gather sick time and get paid vacation. You also have retirement. It's a great option for someone that hasn't been to college. Good luck to you!

Hi Jimmy, Take a G.E.D.. test, this is equal to a high school diploma. Take a course for computers,or something you are interested in at your local college. This will help you get a much better paying job.

Well, you had at least 12 years of free education. most counties have a community college to learn skills and do job consulting.

Have you taken advantage of ANY of this so far? Or did you think it was going to be handed to you?
