Well with me. It depends on the certain series. Like FMA as you mention. I truthfully am starting to like the manga more. The anime was abit more dramatic. But the manga pretty much skips through some of the riff raff that i didnt care about much in the anime. Also, the manga goes farther than the anime. When animes ends abruptly short from the manga. Then that along with Inuyasha and Love Hina, leads to a very disappointing ending *in Inuyasha's case, a cheap horrible ending*. Yes, the FMA movie filled the gap just abit. But since the manga still went on. It turned abit more interesting.
Now in some cases. The anime is better. Case in point: Trigun. This series is one of my all time faves and yet the manga was such a disgrace to read. It didnt really fully cover the beauty and the story as that the anime told.
Even though the anime being better is kinda rare. There has been anime releases lately that have been dead on to the manga. Shows like Death Note, Busou Renkin, and D Gray Man. There is slight differences but those are only little add ins that dont change the story much. I first encountered Death Note in the manga form of course. But when the anime came out. I was absolutely in aw to how on the mark and how beautifully dark the animation is. Truly the best manga and anime to see so far. But this habit sometimes can be a bore. I say this only being able to get official releases of manga in america. I watch fansubbed episodes of animes like Busou Renkin and the anime has been pretty much ahead of the official US released manga. I pretty much watched the episodes which covered all of volume 3 and even some of vol 4 which isnt released in the US yet. And from reading the manga after. I kinda gave me a boring feeling to read the same thing in this form.

It's hard to chooose between the two since some anime stop at a certain point of the manga and don't ever finish it. Then again, there are some manga that are started and never completed. Sometimes I feel that the manga is more in depth than anime, but then again, some things are conveyed better through animation. I guess in the end I'd have to choose manga since most anime are derived from manga.

I prefer anime all the way because manga doesn't have soundtrack or voices. And for me a good OST make a good anime.

I like anime you can watch anime on tv or rent it you have to buy all your manga.Besides you can see reactions better and it's much nicer to hear and see your fav characters in motion its not like regular books where you can just imagine it in your head.
