I have seen my frinds and my own brother transform before my veey eyes over the past three years. I on the other hand am different than the majority. I did take up things such as listening to death metal or any kind of metal for that matter, I did not want to get any part of my body pierced or get any tattoos, I never started wearing black cloths all the time and start to paint my finger nails black either, I never want to smoke weed or drink beer, I never joined any activities at my high school, I never started hanging out with people who aren't really my friends, I never talked about someone behind their back about their apperance, I never stole from my family to buy drugs. So basically having said that to sum that all up I never jumped on the band wagon like everyone else that I know. I refused to change my attitudes about people and things such as movies and going out to parties. Why can't the kids of today be more mild mannered and respectful to people? Give me your input on this

By the way I'm 18 years old and am a senior in high school. I see people like these on a regular basis.

I feel like an old man in an 18 year old's body! I think that I probably would have done better if I was born in the 1940s -1960s.

My brother also curses at me on a regular basis. He even runs around with guy who got him into trouble a while back. After even getting him into trouble he still hangs out with him! Ever time I tell my mom him and his friends try to bully me! Keep in mond that these punks are younger than I am! I'm just trying to look out for his best interests and I don't want him to throw his life away like some people do!

I think the youth have a sense that the world is lying to them, but they don't know about what... and since their parents don't have a clue and are all brainwashed by the media and the government, and the churches, the kids arent' getting any real answers, and they don't even know what the question is! So there is a real turbulence in their insides because they aren't getting any real answers. School is a joke and they know it. .. they are just rebelling but they don't even know what against... Give the kids a break and maybe they will find what they are looking for and teach the rest of us the truth...

Because at some point the child welfare office told kids they have rights and that their parent's don't. It's been going downhill since.
As far as tattoos and body piercings, those things have been going on since cavemen times.
The goth style is just a remake of the 80s banger and punk, which I guess was the hippies before that and the what ever you call it of the roaring 20s, and whatever came before that. Each generation has it's thing and this just happens to be it at the moment.

Piercing themselves, tattoos and gothic style have nothing to do with death metal. I listen to it, and I'm not into any of that other garbage. I don't smoke weed, cigarettes, or drink beer. I don't steal. I'm pretty much a normal person... I go to work and volunteer with charities. I also listen to death metal, 'cause I like it. Music does not equal style. Music is music. You don't really choose what type of music you like. I mean, you sort of do, but you sort of don't. Being a goth, on the other hand, is a choice.

I totally agree with you and it is scary that our youth seem so lost and confused. I think it's because they're afraid to grow up. Perhaps their parents are not instilling any values in them so they have nothing to live for. It seems that young girls are more interested in having a boyfriend than getting an education. And the "bad boys" they hook up with are only using them and cheating on them with every other floosey that will put out. I am an older person, and in some ways, I'm almost looking forward to leaving this earth soon. I fear what it will be like in the next 20 years.

I don't think it's just the kids today , it depends on the person. I've seen some very mild mannered Gothic people. Hell one works at the local store. Some kids are just wild. It has nothing to do with the manner of dress. It has to do with personality.

I ask that question every day. I feel like I'm the female version of today of what you just described...
I see people cursing and my brother is just terrible! He says negative things and just follows this stereotype of today. He can be a good person, but the majority of the time is just bad...
I guess everyone is just stupid. They're to immature and hyperactive to look at what they are doing. Plus they are exposed to all this behavior in the media. I guess there's a slim minority who are mature enough to put life in perspective and aren't extremely affected by what they see and hear...

Good question. I think a lot of it has to do with how involved their parents are in their lives. Too many parents are too busy with their own lives to monitor what their kids are doing. Some parents want to be their children's "friend", so they don't tell them not to do these things. They feel that they are expressing themselves.
But I'm happy to say that is not the parent that I am.

I think that use to be to put there self out there to say I am different but now it looks like its peer pressure and trying to fit in. Im glad you choose not to be like them. Many will end up with fried brain cells or in jail.Thats really sad to because alot of them use to be really nice people. Thanks for not joining in with that crowd.
